Here we are, another Women’s History Month already underway. Of course it’s a time to honor the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. And, of course, I’m hearing story after story about women being asked to speak, participate on panels, and facilitate workshops related to the theme of Women’s History Month–but for FREE. . Y’all. . Clearly, it’s also a time to reflect on the progress that has been made AND the work that still needs to be done. . So as we celebrate Women’s History Month, it’s essential to recognize the importance of investing in and putting yourself first as a woman. . For too long, womxn have been conditioned to put others’ needs before their own. . Women have been taught that being selfless and putting the needs of everyone but themselves first is part and parcel to being a “good” person. . Caring for others is of course important, but you know what? It’s equally vital to invest in yourself. . Reminder: Investing in yourself means prioritizing your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It means setting aside time to pursue your passions, interests, and goals. It means taking care of yourself, both physically and mentally, so that you can be the best version of yourself. . Investing in yourself also means investing in your education, career, and financial future. It means taking the time to learn new skills, explore new opportunities, and take risks to achieve your goals. It means advocating for yourself in the workplace and negotiating for the salary and benefits you deserve. . And it means honing your boundaries to preserve your time dedicated and commitment to all of the above. . Believe me, I know that putting yourself first can feel uncomfortable, especially for womxn who have been socialized to be selfless. However, investing in yourself and putting yourself first is crucial for personal growth, professional success, and overall happiness. . So, this Women’s History Month, I suggest: take some time to reflect on your own life and priorities. Think about how you can invest in yourself, both personally and professionally, and how you can prioritize your own well-being. . Remember, investing in and putting yourself first is not selfish; it’s necessary for personal and professional growth, and it’s an important step towards achieving true equality. .
