Hi friend – it’s the last weekend before Election Day in the US and as predicted in my last email, it’s been WILD. Busy, overstimulating, & exhausting. To say the least.
.
I mean every fall hits pretty hard, and this year—an election year—is no different. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride of trying to figure out what to pay attention to on top of the regular things of life.
.
You with me?
.
Every 4 years the energy is hard to manage. Forewarned is certainly forearmed and still, whew—my neck is so sore from the whiplash, my eyes burning from all the eye-popping headlines, it’s almost impossible to focus on anything but my outrage.
.
The truth is that this past year in my world has been very up and down. Global events, losses, heartbreaks, relationship realignments, and so much more—all compounded by the intensity of a presidential election year.
.
The noise is off the charts intense and chaotic, I don’t know how else to put it.
.
2024 has been all about re-reminding myself to: CONTROL WHAT I CAN.
.
And believe me, I’m using ALL the tools, all my de-stress techniques along with some new ones to stay grounded. Again, pointing you to the tools in this post. It’s ongoing, ever-necessary work.
.
I’m going to be real—right now the main issue is likely your digital diet. I mean, it’s definitely mine, and so I’m guessing it’s also yours.
.
But truly: There is not one single piece of content you need to consume to help you feel better about this election. You also probably already have outrage aplenty, so more content consumption isn’t helpful there either. So I’m giving you one tip to help manage this time: STOP the scrolling, the refreshing, the clicking madness. You don’t need it.
.
When you receive this I will be on my way to Arizona to help get out the vote. Voting is one of my favorite activities, I never miss my opportunity, and I love helping others exercise their right to do so too.
.
ACTION is my antidote to outrage, so I’m encouraging you to get into some offline action that’s going to help ground you too. Even if it’s simple deep breaths, a bit of stretching, some short walks.
.
Of course, stay engaged. Please don’t check out, make sure you vote! AND ALSO make future plans, connect with friends, and do what you can to control what you can.
.
Because guess what? After Election Day, the world keeps turning, kids have to go to school, work deliverables abound, and we must keep going. Let’s take care of each other, and definitely of ourselves – this work remains essential regardless of election outcomes.
